Mary Calkins is
a multi-talented artist with skills in painting, printmaking,
and photography. Originally from Massachusetts, she attended
Massachusetts College of Art from 1989-1994, where she received
honors for excellence in painting and a B.F.A. degree. As part
of her studies in Boston she had the opportunity to spend a
year studying at The Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa
Fe, New Mexico, which was a source of enrichment to her creative
efforts and her personal life. |
 |
She has been living in Arizona since 1995. During
that time she has developed a broad repertoire of southwest
art and designs. Popular among them are her alternative photographic
pieces of colorful cactus flowers and a variety of work with
Native American themes. Her art is in many homes and businesses
in the Phoenix area, and she has been published by Grand Image
Ltd, of Seattle, WA.
Mary loves to blend processes and techniques in her wonderful
contemporary art. She often combines photographic processes
with printmaking or painting to create her multimedia pieces.
She enhances images with color pencils, glazes and paint, and
often incorporates collage elements, embossing, metallic leaf,
or acrylic mediums to create richly colored and textured works
of art that are truly unique. |
